MNP – a biggest gain for Vodafone

Pan-India GSM Mobile Service operator Vodafone has acquired nearly 192,761 customers from other networks under the mobile number portability facility. MNP, introduced recently enables the customers to switch operators without missing their phone numbers and encourages telecom providers for improving the quality of their services. This scheme is also available in other Asian economies including Singapore, Malaysia and China.

The COAI reports that less than 5 million subscribers or less than 1 per cent of the country’s total customers had decided to switch carriers. Bharti Airtel, top mobile operator has gained a net 148,215 customers in MNP but Reliance Communications was a net loser of 306,417 customers as per the data showed.
