GSM telcos adds 14.69 million new subscribers in February

Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) reports that GSM mobile subscribers base increased by 14.69 million subscribers considering the total number of cellular users in the country to 555.06 million in the month of February. But at the end of January 2011, the GSM subscriber base stood at 540.37 million without considering additions by Tata Docomo and Reliance Communications.

Reliance Communication added over 23.87 million users at the end of January 2011. Bharti Airtel, Telecom Giant added over 3.20 million users, a growth of 28.65% as compared to the previous month, taking its total number of subscribers to 158.99 million. Vodafone Essar at the third spot added over 3.55 million new subscribers with a 23.59% market share. Aditya Birla group firm Idea Cellular added 2.51 million users during the month, taking its total number of subscribers to 86.80 million while Aircel added 1.66 million customers having its subscriber base to 53.50 million. In addition, State-run telecom firms BSNL and MTNL added 1.50 million and 25,786 new users taking their subscriber base to 85.09 million and 5.17 million, respectively.
