BSNL & Intel brings affordable Atom processor devices with Darpan UI

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and partnered Intel India to bid affordable low-cost devices to drive Internet 
access under the tag ‘Meri Manzil Mera Pehela Kadam’. These affordable devices will be embodied with Intel Atom processors.
Intel along with BSNL leverage affordable Internet-centric devices called Netbooks and Nettops. Netbooks and Nettops offer basic computing applications, listening to music, e-mailing and surfing the Internet.
They also provide a local language interface ‘Darpan’, which will enable new users to experience the internet and its endless opportunities. This user interface is currently available in Hindi, Marathi and Tamil and will be extended to other languages going forward.
Intel’s Darpan will simplify the PC usage and moreover all India based content is compiled to reduce keyboard usage and it puts the navigation at ease by introducing local language menus and commands. Intel and BSNL go to market initiative will cover rural locations across the length and breadth of the nation over the next few months.
They will also work closely to accelerate WiMax in India as it bears more value for education, communication, business and entertainment.The demo kiosks including ‘Darpan’ will be on display at the Convergence India Show at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi from 23rd to 25th of March 2010.
