Reliance Communications plans Mobile Applications Store in India through RWorld

Reliance Communications, India’s largest telecom operator offering both GSM and CDMA mobile services plans to reveal its first version of the Reliance Application Store. RCOM application store enables developers to make available software and services to customers using any type of mobile device.

It is a mobile store for music, games, news and commerce applications for CDMA as well as GSM customers. The new look RWorld 2.0 is planned to go live on GSM handsets as early as the month end but the GSM and CDMA can access its expanded version later this quarter.

The core idea behind the launch of RWorld 2.0 is driven by 4 C’s:

• customer experiences based on smartphones

• content localization and SNS generated content

• contextual search for content across all Voice, SMS and Data

• clear and simple pricing

RCOM provides a single mother portal cutting across all platforms and network elements and its application store allows customers to browse and download applications (paid/free) through a controlled environment.

RWorld 2.0 will be equipped with state-of-the-art service delivery platform supporting on-device portals, idle screens, widgets and RSS readers showcasing latest developments across the world. RCOM bags over 10,000 individual and corporate registered developers.

It also revealed Reliance Developer Program (RDP) to provide a platform and act as a catalyst to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among the vast student talent pool in India. Students can earn revenues while they learn and then become young entrepreneurs.

An annual RDP Contest is also held and the best innovators among students/entrepreneurs are suitably rewarded. Application developers in India & abroad can deploy their applications on RWorld and monetize it through the revenue share model.

Reliance Communications had pioneered and promoted the concept of ‘Bus Button Dabao’ – a customer friendly experience on CDMA handsets through data portal RWorld. The concept of an evolved Applications Store is to ensure that data services are accessible, easy and fun to use.
