BSNL launches High Speed Wireless 4G Services in Assam

The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited in Assam vibrated the state with high-speed connectivity optical fibre cable line at a cost of Rs 250 crore. This initiation was rolled out to review and improve the activities of information technology departments, rural telephony, and quality of services of Northeast.

BSNL laid optical fibre cable network will increase the bandwidth speed and provide long distance communication when compared to that of copper-based cables. This launch will boost the connectivity between Assam and Northeast, as WiMAX technology is the latest 4th generation wireless broadband service working in 2.5 GHz band.

Pilot launched WiMax, BSNL’s high-speed wireless data services, at Chaygaon in Kamrup district to provide high-speed connectivity in the rural areas. High-speed Internet services will be available in an area of 15km at a broadband speed of 7 Mbps.

The BSNL will set up 843 mobile towers in the Northeast to deliver high quality telephone and also to provide communication facilities for border areas. Meanwhile metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai will also get a facelift.

The high speed wireless broadband connectivity will offer video conferencing, enabling tele-medicine and tele-education, besides providing other services like payment of utility bills, issue of birth certificates, land records, vehicle registration etc.

The vision of rural WiMax is deepening and the efforts rolled out in Assam will turn out it as a best investment hub for telecom sector. Rural areas can avail this service with a starting tariff of Rs 140 per month. BSNL has already planned to spend approximately Rs 1,200 crore for rural WiMAX.

WiMax services covers more than 200 base stations in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh. In the first phase BSNL would cover 1000 block headquarters across the country and the remaining block headquarters be connected through 50,000 common service centers’ in next segment.
