Vodafone cuts Roaming rate and bids ‘Travel Plan’ & ‘Ticket Plan’

vodafoneVodafone Essar, one of the major players in the mobile sector, has finally joined the tariff war in the Roaming segment in the world’s fastest growing cellular market.

On Friday, Vodafone cut roaming charges by over 50% and at the same time offered its users the option to opt for a per-second pulse. Under Vodafone’s new roaming plans, users can choose roaming charges of either 70 paise per minute or 1.5 paise per second.

Indian mobile operators such as Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications are locked are locked in a tariff war, raising concerns about telecom firms’ profitability.

Vodafone Essar has reducedĀ  Roaming rates for its prepaid and postpaid subscribers and the plan details are as follows,

  • Customers can either opt for the ‘Travel Plan’ to enjoy a flat rate of 70p/minute for national roaming or the ‘Ticket Plan’ to enjoy flat national roaming rates of 1.5p/sec.
  • Prepaid customers can purchase the Travel Plan at Rs 58 and Ticket Plan Rs 62 with a validity of 365 days from the date of recharge.
  • Post-paid customers can opt for the Rs 299 ‘Travel Plan’ or the Rs 299 ‘Ticket Plan’ to enjoy the new per minute and per second roaming tariffs, respectively.
  • In addition to the flat 70p/minute national roaming rate, the Rs 299 Travel Plan offers a flat rate of 50p/per min on local and STD calls and 175 mins free on local and STD calls per month.
  • Similarly, in addition to the flat roaming rate of 1.5p/sec, the Rs 299 ‘Ticket Plan’ offers the customer a flat local and STD rate of 1p/sec and 10,000 free local and STD seconds per month.

Customers have been the biggest gainers of the ongoing tariff war,according to industry analysts.But that comes at the cost of mobile operators losing out on revenues.
