Telecom regulatory body of India, TRAI expressed its’ deep concern in not implementing Pay-per-Second scheme by all the service providers of India. The scheme of Pay-per-Second has been successfully done by Tata Docomo which will be followed by many others in the coming years.

Addressing at Geneva, TRAI said because of not implementation of “Pay-per-Second” might bring a loss of 15% in terms of revenue. It also said that it is trying to make de-facto for all the service providers in India where customers will be subjected to pay only for their time over phone.

However, Mr. Sharma said, the time of implementing the de-facto is yet to be decided as a detailed study needs to be done. A study by the HSBC Securities and Capital Markets showed that 10-15% of telecomm industry revenue might be lost under the scheme of “Pay-per-Second.” Thus companies are quite skeptical in even having concrete talks on this issue.

At present service providers like Tata Docomo, Shyam Sistema and Aircel follow a Pay-per-Second billing system in a few circles of India.
