Another 9.3 million GSM subscribers added in August

August witnessed an addition of 9.3 million GSM subscribers in India and thus take the total Indian subscribers tally to 335.4 million. However the new additions is 6% less than the number in July.

Bharti Airtel still leads the pack and added 2.8 million new users taking its base to 107.9 million. Bharti Airtel’s effort to penetrate into rural and far-flung areas helped to witness this growth. Airtel now has a market share of 32.19 in the GSM space.

Vodafone added 2.19 million users and Idea Cellular added 1.5 million subscribers in August. Aircel, which is aggressively expanding its operation across the country added 1.5 million subscriber base.

Its not a fortune month for State owned BSNL and MTNL. Both the service providers witnessed a decline of 16% and 43% additions when compared to July additions. BSNL added 1.3 million users in August.

Subscription base of the new entrants Reliance GSM and Tata DoCoMo is unavailable at the moment.
