Indian telecom service providers are severely affected by the “One Paisa Fever”. After the famous “One paisa per second” calls, now here comes the “One Paisa per SMS character” plans. This time also Tata DOCOMO is going to be the trendsetter.

Tata DoCoMo today launches the innovative “Diet SMS” offer by which customers will be charged based on the characters used in the SMS. One paisa will be charged for one character in the SMS and any unused / space between the words will not be charged.  Tata DoCoMo has provided three different option to use the service for all its subscribers.

  • Go to the SIM-based menu on the phone (called Dive-in Now), scroll to the diet-sms option under the English Language menu, open it and send the SMS
  • Download the phone application, “Dive In” from the Tata DoCoMo wap portal or simply send a SMS “diet” to 54321. You will be replied with the link for download the application using GPRS and install it
  • You can also send a diet-sms using the normal SMS menu. Just type the mobile number followed by a space followed by the message and sms this to the short code 52208

This “Diet SMS” offer is a very useful feature for those who used to send very short messages (5 – 20 characters in length). For long SMS, you can always use your regular SMS option as per your tariff plan.
