dishtvFollowing the 30% entertainment tax levied by the UP govt on DTH companies, Leading DTH service provider, Dish TV has increased the price of the set top boxes and its packs for Uttarpradesh services from September 2nd onwards.

Uttar Pradesh state government has imposed an additional 30% entertainment tax on Set Top Boxes and gross monthly subscriptions of DTH companies from 16th July 2009. Dish TV and other DTH service providers in the state has strongly opposed the move as it will affect the prospect of the already reeling DTH industry due to multiple taxes. However Uttar pradesh govt refused to reverse the tax structure.

Till now, Dish TV has absorbed the additional tax burden but now the service provider has decided to pass it to the new and existing customers of the state. So all the UP Dish TV customers has to pay 30% more charges than the subscribers in other parts of the country. However as an offset to the increased cost, Dish TV is giving away additional free movies in their Movie On Demand service.
