Virgin Mobile, a joint venture of Virgin group and Tata Telecom, has launched a wireless internet data card, vLink  in Virgin_vLink_Datacardthe Indian market.  vLink USB modem comes at a price of Rs. 2100. Virgin Mobile has introduced two plans , Rs. 801 / month with Unlimited Internet access and a second plan of Rs. 349 / month. In the second plan, users has to pay 25 paise / min during day (8 am to 10 pm ) and 12 paise / min during night hours (10 pm to 8 am). Virgin also allows the facility of rolling over the unused balance to the subsequent months.

As a promotional offer, Virgin introduces a starter kit for Rs 99 with unlimited usage for the first month. vLink USB modem supports storage of data upto 1 GB. The company claims a maximum speed of 153 kbps.

What we think:

The tariff is bit competitive and the plans are flexible meeting the needs of power users and the normal users. 1 GB data storage in the USB modem is value addition for the USB modem cost. However the maximum speed (153 kbps) looks very slow after the introduction of BSNL EVDO, Reliance Netconnect and Tata Photon + which offers speeds upto 3.1 Mbps.
