BSNL launches 3G services in Chennai

The government telecom subsidiary in Chennai, BSNL has unleashed its 3G services, thereby providing the customers with upgraded services, voice data and video services, video streaming applications (Live TV, movie downloads, high speed data down load with 3G services still in the run. The joy of looking at each other while on the move with mobile is an insinuating aspect of this 3G. The mobile will get data speed of 2Mbps (unlike the 144 kbps available in GPRS and EDGE oriented mobiles). The launch, commissioned by the Tamilnadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi, is at the helm of the Chennai Telephones and there are already 25 stations (Node –Bs) in Chennai alone.

This is BSNL’s part of providing 3G services to the important cities and prominent places. The Communications Minister of Tamilnadu said that the current 3G services will be available in 700 cities and the present figures is over 360 million mobile connections which may double by 2012. The level of teledensity has varied from 12.74% in 2006 from to 34 percent till January 2009. BSNL has revolutionized the tariff to by cutting call charges -40 to 50 paise a minute. Mr.Raja has also announced the launch of mobile number portability – the option to retain the chosen number irrespective of switching over to any mobile operator. Set to be launched in August this year, MrRaja said, the service will be initially made in Chennai followed by other cities. BSNL hopes that this value added service, as a part of its 3G services, would fetch more customers.
