The most predominant mobile company in the world Nokia does not leave any leaf unturned and this time it announces the launch of Virtual Store in India. Expected to resemble Apple’s App Store, Nokia’s store will be Ovi which will stock applications, games, videos, widgets, podcasts, location-based applications and personalization content. The proposed mechanisms will be incorporated in Nokia series 40 and S60 devices, and N97 will be the company’s first device to offer the store. The mode of delivery is different in the case of Nokia – to promote through the carrier’s billing mechanism (Apple does it through iTunes). Nokia makes the choice of application as purely customer’s and the store will recommend on downloading and the location of the consumers, and will be relevant to the customer’s interests. To enhance the consumers with the payment options, the company has brought out these choices, whereby the requisite of credit cards cannot arise. In addition to this, Nokia is on the plan to launch a musical store in Hindi and vernacular languages, with the technical tie-up of Sony and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. As a launching offer, the company is providing digital music as free and the pricing will be done later. Analysts believe that the offers from Nokia may come in the second half of this year.
Following the footsteps of Apple and Nokia, other companies – Research in Motion and Microsoft – are also contemplating on storefront.
