BSNL announces Pan-India launch of IPTV service

bsnl_broadbandState run telecom company, BSNL announces the nationwide launch of its IPTV service today. BSNL collaborates with SmartTV Group to bring out this new IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) Service. The Smart TV Group, consisting Smart Digivision Pvt Ltd and Smart Broadband Services Pvt Ltd, has entered into long term contracts with MTNL and BSNL for providing co-branded interactive video services to their customers in 54 large cities across India.

BSNL had earlier test launched the service in few major cities in India and with this launch, moved a step towards its ambitious plans to capture huge market share in IPTV service. BSNL with its early mover advantage looks like definite winner in this space. BSNL has plans to add three million mobile broadband connections every year and expected to add one lakh IPTV subscribers by March 2009.

For those who are hearing IPTV for the first time, it means digital content services (TV channels and Video content) delivered to subscribed customers using a broadband internet connection. Customers who avail IPTV services from BSNL can also be able to get video, music, games and eduction on demand. All the three services Normal Telephone Service, Broadband Internet service, IPTV service work together!
