[Review] Sony Ericsson W902, stylish music and camera phone
Posted at December 28th, 2008 under Mobile Companies, Sony Ericson | 4 Comments »
Walkman is a trademark of Sony. Sony Ericsson is seen to have had the most success with converging music and mobile phones, largely attributed to the Walkman heritage and expertise from Sony. And W902 is one of its kinds to add credit to that heritage and expertise.
Falling in the mid-range walkman category, W902 is a competitor not only for the multimedia music player features (for what walkman is meant to be), but it boasts of a 5 mega pixel camera to give an edge over others. It incorporates all that is good from the Walkman range, shake control, multiple music file support and FM radio.
Pros: 5 MP camera and 8 GB memory (lets you store about 8000 songs)
Cons: No headphone socket (you’ll need to use an adaptor cable to connect your decent earphones to Sony Eric’s proprietary connector on the left side)
Peripheral design
A candy bar design coming in 3 color versions: Volcanic Black – Wine Red – Earth Green
Front: It has a scratch resistant 2.2” TFT QVGA display with 256K colors. The D-pad hosts the keys in interlaced circles which give a pretty nice look for the walkman phone.
Right: Player controls (play/stop, FFW/RWD), volume rocker and the camera shortcut.
Left: Charge Connector
Back: 5-MP camera J
W902 Features
* Features the best stereo quality audio output
* The latest Walkman player software package is inside, including Shake Control motion sensor gimmickry.
* Sony Ericsson’s SensMe system which sorts music by mood makes a repeat appearance.
* Also 3G enabled allowing for face to face video calling, fast download speeds for new music files, content and applications as well as access to the latest news and sports headlines and new movie trailers from the network 3G services
* For online connectivity it uses HSDPA high-speed mobile data.
* The Internet browser is also very promising, because it opens heavy pages without a problem and there is pan view as well, which greatly facilitates navigation. Thanks to the accelerometer, you can easily switch from portrait to landscape view. It is also used as a game control, which is quite entertaining.
* Photos can be geotagged though there’s no GPS antenna so don’t expect total accuracy – it quotes getting you to within 900 metres of the spot.
* Sony Ericsson provides its usual range of software that includes a pedometer (Walk Mate), FM radio, five alarms, calendar, task manager, sound recorder, notes taker, timer, stopwatch, calculator, passcoded memo, and, of course, a Web browser. Google Maps is also here as are Sony Ericsson standards like TrackID, VideoDJ, PhotoDJ and MusicDJ.
* Battery life was pretty good. I got just short of 13 hours of non-stop music from a full battery charge and went three days between charges as long as I did not thrash the Web browser or music player.
With a boasting camera, this W-series kind is said to be a blend of Cybershot and Walkman styles of Sony Ericsson. Typically, a youthful kind which is a stylish & slim 3G music n camera phone!
Priced at Rs.20,400 /-
